Moving Day Checklist

Even if the arrival of your professional movers is scheduled for later in the day, you should start your moving day early to make sure you have time to double-check things before the moving experts come knocking on your door.

Have you safely packed each and every household item you intend to take with you? Have you checked, again, each room and looked into each furniture piece that you’re leaving behind? Nothing should be left behind, double-check each room in your residence (including the garage, attic and basement areas) and make sure everything is safely packed and ready for transportation. If you’re leaving any pieces of furniture, check thoroughly their drawers and cupboards for forgotten items. Guarantee your peace of mind by walking and inspecting your house or apartment one last time.

This is self-explanatory, isn’t it? The most anticipated day of a residential move is also the most dangerous one as far as property damage and personal injuries are concerned. So, it’s your priority to ensure the safety of everyone involved: keep small children and pets away from the moving day chaos, wear appropriate moving day clothes, and use adequate techniques to keep the home free of property damage.

How do you organise your documents? Keep all your important documents close to you, cash, bank cards, medicine, valuable jewellery, expensive electronics, and anything that must remain by your side and under constant supervision.

Welcome the moving staff at the pre-set time, take them on a tour around the house while giving them any important instructions and then just leave them to do their job. Don’t forget to show consideration towards their needs – offer them sandwiches, snack food as well as water or non-alcoholic beverages to keep their energy levels elevated throughout the moving process.

Before the vans depart in direction of your new residence, don’t forget to confirm with the driver that he has your exact address and knows how to find your place without any problems. You can hand detailed written directions to the driver to avoid any mix-ups. Also, confirm once more that the moving company, and the van driver, in particular, have your phone number in case of emergencies.

Just before you leave your residence for good, do one final tour around it to make sure all windows and doors are closed tight and locked safely, leave all the house or apartment keys on the kitchen counter for the new owners (if you’ve sold your place), turn the lights off and say goodbye to your old home.
